The Seventies mood has been around for a few seasons and isn't going anywhere: warm colours, graphic prints, knotted scarves. The risk with anything vintage is the fancy-dress effect. Here's how to take the spirit without the costume.

The right prints

Paisley, optical geometrics, stylised flowers, multicoloured stripes in earth tones — these are the prints that say "1970s" at a glance. On our accessories you'll find them on silk, chiffon and crêpe, often cut from genuine vintage fabric.

The fabrics

• Printed silk and chiffon: for knotted scarves and bands, the most authentic route.
• Velvet: for turbans and padded headbands, in shades like rust, mustard, bottle green.
• Lurex knit: that disco shimmer, which works in a small dose (a thin band, not the whole head).

How to wear them without overdoing it

The rule is one vintage element at a time. Print turban + the rest of the look clean and contemporary. Scarf knotted in the hair + jeans and a plain top. Put print, colour and a retro cut together and you're in costume.
