Finding the right gift for someone close to you who is going through chemotherapy or alopecia isn't easy: you want to be present without being heavy, useful without seeming like you're the one solving it. Here are some measured ideas.
A soft turban (or two)
The most practical gift. Choose natural, non-scratchy fabrics — cotton, bamboo, viscose jersey for daytime; silk velvet or light cashmere for occasions. Two simple turbans in neutral colours beat one elaborate one: they alternate and they wash.
On sizing: if you don't know the head circumference, choose a stretch jersey style that adapts. Or give a gift card and let her choose — including a made-to-measure size.
A beautiful silk scarf
Not "for a patient": a printed silk scarf she'd wear anyway, and can knot in her hair or at the neck in the meantime. A gift that doesn't reference the illness.
A brooch or a flower
Small, pins onto a turban, a jacket, a bag. Adds a personal touch and shifts the focus.
What to avoid
Hospital-style caps, "care package" kits, anything marked as a product for patients. And don't give a wig unless she's asked — it's a very personal choice.
